Newton RunningNewton Running is my newest partner and I am very excited about the opportunity I have with Newton. First and foremost, Newton makes the most innovative and technically sound running shoe on the market. Obviously this is crucial for me as a runner. But Newton also offers me another outlet for my greatest passion, the promotion of social responsibility. I believe that it my responsibility to lead by example and not with words. Without Princeton Tec, I would probably still be wandering around the Sahara Desert or the Amazon Jungle. Vita MixI am a vegan which seems to surprise many people. The first question is always “where do you get your protein?” Vita Mix baby! I have become a master of the smoothie. The recipes are endless. This machine will blend anything. I have been tempted to use it as a wood chipper after a storm but I haven’t found a recipe yet that includes mulch. I use the Vita Mix every day for my own nutrition and to impress my fellow runners with my blending skills. Okay that last part isn’t realy true but I do use it every day.

Nathan SportsThrough the years, I have tried every possible configuration of water bottles and packs and waist belts. It has been frustrating because it always seems that the comfortable products don’t function well and the functional products rubbed all my skin off. Nathan is the first company I have found that combines function and comfort in a way that really makes sense. And the stuff looks cool too. Nathan also takes great pride in making the best stainless steel reusable water bottles. I think everyone should own one and never ever use another plastic water bottle. The laziness of human beings is putting 30 million plastic bottles into landfills every single day. Nathan is helping to change that.

Mission Partners
Years ago I learned a really valuable lesson through my recovery from drug addiction. I learned that if I wanted to keep my sobriety strong, I needed to be willing to help others. This was a real revelation for me. Essentially this meant that if I had any hope of helping myself, I needed to help others first. Since that day, I have never found a single bit of evidence to the contrary. I have the incredible good fortune to be able to offer my support to a number of non profit organizations. I believe in the goals of these non profits and am appreciative of the tremendous support that they have given to me in return.
Water.ORGThere is no more basic human right than the right to a clean drink of water. As most people are aware, water is now and will continue to be the rarest of the worlds natural resources yet we take it for granted far too often. WATER.org has a goal of providing clean water and sanitation to every person that needs it. This mission may never be completed but Gary White and WATER.org will not ever stop trying. Years ago, I co-founded H2O Africa along with Ray Zahab, Kevin Lin, Matt Damon and the production team of Running the Sahara. Today, H2O Africa is administered by WATER.org and I am a proud member of the advisory board of WATER.org

Impossible 2 ImpossibleRay Zahab is one of my best friends. He put up with me for several thousand miles across the Sahara Desert without complaining at all. Okay, maybe he complained a little but I deserved it. I commonly refer to Ray as The King of Happyland due to his infectiously positive attitude. He has founded this tremendous educational organization and I am proud to say that I have plans to support his cause for many years to come.

Challenged Athletes FoundationCAF is an amazing foundation that provides grants to athletes with disabilities. I have personally witnessed astounding feats of athletic ability and endurance by athletes that have been helped by CAF. Many of them would say that their disability has become an advantage thanks to CAF and the generous donations of supporters worldwide.

Live UnitedThe United Way is the largest and most prolific non profit in the world. The scope of their work is far to broad to sum up in a few sentences. My role with United Way’s program called LIVE UNITED is to provide support and encouragement for kids that are battling childhood obesity. The problem of childhood obesity is so massive that it will completely crush America’s healthcare system in the future, as these overweight and unhealthy kids become adults. I give them my full effort and support.
